Marine turtles

Home / Nature / Marine turtles

From July to September, you can witness one of nature’s most emotional events. Huge turtles come under the protection of nocturnal veil to lay their eggs, seeking a quiet place and our commitment is to keep it that way. During this season we encourage our guests to turn off their lights early.

In the state of Quintana Roo four species of turtles arrive for nesting: green (or white), hawksbill, loggerhead and leatherback.

In a single nesting season, females lay between two and six clutches of eggs, each containing 65 to 180 eggs. Egg clutches are laid approximately every two weeks, and the period between nesting seasons for females ranges from one to nine years. (Source: WWF).

Important notice: These dates are approximate, it is not possible to know when the nests will hatch, however, we have a good guess, maybe you will get lucky!
